The Bahamas Football Amateur Association, which was formed by English businessman Brian Andrews, had several ten man teams that played matches on Sundays at the Park Clifford. The league would have some additional team as time went on.

The first major match that took place involves a team from the Bahamas came in 1957. A team of all-star players from the country played in a major trophy match against the Coral Gables Soccer Club.

With more international games involved the Bahamas Football Association was formed. This was for the intention of representing the country in international matches. The group would get its full affiliation with FIFA not long after that.

The BFA also joined the Confederation of North, Caribbean and Central America Association of Football. The group joined this league in 1981. This was used especially for representation in local matches.
